What is Froth FlotationåQ?/strong>
Froth flotation is a process for separating minerals from gangue by taking advantage of differences in theirĀ hydrophobicity. Hydrophobicity differences between valuable minerals and waste gangue are increased through the use of surfactants and wetting agents. The selective separation of the minerals makes processing complex (that is, mixed) ores economically feasible. The flotation process is used for the separation of a large range ofĀ sulfides,Ā carbonatesĀ andĀ oxidesĀ prior to further refinement.Ā PhosphatesĀ andĀ coalĀ are also upgraded (purified) by flotation technology.

Flotation is undoubtedly the most important and versatile mineral processing technique and its application is being expanded to treat greater tonnages and to cover new areas. In flotation cell concentration, the mineral is usually transferred to the froth, or float fraction, leaving the gangue in the pulp or tailing.

Application
